Overview
Pohang Iron and Steel was founded in 1968 and fired its first blast furnace in 1973, built partly with Japanese reparations funds. The integrated works supplied the steel behind South Korean shipbuilding, cars and construction, and POSCO grew into one of the largest steelmakers in the world.
