Overview
A Royal Navy dockyard on the River Medway for more than four centuries, where HMS Victory was launched in 1765. It built sailing warships, ironclads and finally submarines before closing in 1984. Its Georgian ropery, covered slips and docks survive as the Historic Dockyard Chatham.
