Overview
Begun by the Tokugawa shogunate as an iron works in 1857 and later taken over by Mitsubishi, this yard became the cradle of modern Japanese shipbuilding. It built the battleship Musashi in the Second World War. Several of its structures are part of the Meiji Industrial Revolution World Heritage listing.
