Leuna Works
1916 - Industrial park
Overview
BASF built this plant near Merseburg during the First World War to make ammonia by the Haber-Bosch process for explosives and fertiliser. Under IG Farben it also produced synthetic fuel, making it a major Allied bombing target. After decades as an East German combine it is now a large chemical park.
